SpurHacks 2025
This past weekend I was lucky enough to have attended SpurHacks 2025, Canada’s largest hackathon spanning 36 hours. Here’s how it went and what I made.
“Was it fun?”
Yes, yes! A million times yes!
- the words of me post-SpurHacks and the words of someone being proposed to, probably
I’ve only been to 1 other hackathon (Scrapyard Toronto), but this one definitely takes the cake for 1st prize. The weekend was a blast. There was lots of fun ways to procrastinate (karaoke, air hockey, workshops etc) and the food was top notch. I probably ate more shawarma and ramen in 2 days than I have in my entire life, and it was awesome. I would totally do it again.
The Project
Together, me and my 2 teammates made an AI study helper tool. You can feed in a website or a PDF, and it will generate a multiple-choice quiz based on the contents. It’s important to note the quiz will be based on what you feed in, and not the topic of what you feed in. You’ll notice this when you feed it some more opinionated content such as justfuckingusehtml.com, where the AI actually described JavaScript frameworks as “buzzword salad”. Although the validity of this is up for debate, this can be useful when studying for assessments where you may need to understand specific topics or use specific vocabulary.
The site is available at inquizitive.study. It’s very jank. You can find the source code on GitHub, with similar levels of jankness.
What now?
I’ll likely continue to work on the project. There are a lot of issues to fix (most notably the delete button for quizzes just not working), and other features I’d like to add.
If you have any suggestions, write me an email and maybe I’ll add them :D
